Spaying and neutering are the only effective ways to reduce overpopulation among stray cats and dogs and permanently alleviate the misery of street animals. As early as 1993 we installed a small spay/neuter clinic in Moscow. When the programme ended in 2011, over 44,000 animals had been sterilised.

In 2005, we established a small neutering clinic at Sussita Kumi, our alternative cat refuge, where the rural population can have their dogs and cats sterilised free of charge. Dogs from our programme for former chain dogs can also receive surgical operations here if necessary.

Over 6,000 spay and neuter surgeries performed

Since 2008 we have run a highly successful spay/neuter and accident clinic in Altinoluk, Turkey, where the municipality provides us with free premises on an industrial estate. Thanks to the exemplary management of our veterinary clinic by our representative Nilgün Varos, our veterinary clinic enjoys a high reputation among the local population. This has allowed us to develop a fully-supervised Neuter & Release programme here. We also work closely with the police and the militia, who inform us immediately when animals are in danger and even help to rescue them if necessary. Local residents help look after the dogs at our feeding stations and notify us as soon as they see a sick or injured animal.

Balance to date (as of August 2024):
More than 39,000 spay and neuter surgeries performed in Altinoluk since 1993.
More than 2,700 other operations including 2,367 accident operations, 163 tumour opertaions, and 253 amputations.
