Our sanctuary “Samaria II”/Poland – Rescue of Schalom

We learned about the miserable fate of a 6-year-old mare who had been isolated in a small room for 2 years.

She was malnourished, weak and suffered from laminitis. The owner had decided to give up animal husbandry and hand over the mare to be transported to an Italian slaughterhouse for death. The slaughter price was 5000 zlotys.

Due to the sudden onset of winter and heavy snowfall, it was not possible for us to drive to the remote location with the horse trailer and transport the mare to us immediately. Dr Wojciech and our vet Dr Tomana drove to the mare regularly with clean straw, hay, carrots and necessary medication.

Finally, due to a winter thaw, it was possible to bring Schalom to our horse sanctuary Samaria II to the Wojciech family. Curious, she entered the stable and the other horses gave Schalom a warm welcome.
