Our sanctuary “Sussita Kumi” – Rescue of Mikolai (7 y.o.)

We took over care of this adorable boy from a Kolberg animal shelter. A large scar on his forehead and the loss of an eye were evidence of a serious assault or an accident. Both front legs had definitely been broken a few months prior, with one still hanging loose. Despite the loosely hanging leg, it is neurologically normal. The fractures had been treated surgically in the past – but completely inadequately. The antebrachial bones have been taken care of, but the damage to the carpal bones is irreversible and will definitely cause problems with osteoarthritis in the future. It's painful and all the implants in that right limb will have to be removed.

The left leg is a bad story too, especially since it's a comminuted fracture (possibly the bone was additionally fractured after the spike was inserted). There is no sign of healing on the x-ray and the fracture is completely unstable. A possible treatment for this leg would be surgery to stabilize the fracture. The entire treatment must be divided into at least two operations.
